Popcorn and Milk Experiment

We are reading Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder right now.  In one part of the book, Almonzo mentions how you can fit a full glass of popcorn into a full glass of milk.  Of course, we had to try it for ourselves.

Start with one glass full of milk and one full of popcorn.

Slowly transfer the popcorn into the milk glass a few kernels at a time.

Miss M found the resulting mix quite disgusting.
See the results - both fit into one glass without overflowing.

Miss M and I discussed why this worked with popcorn and wouldn't work with a glass full of rocks, for instance.  This was a simple little experiment, but one even The Bug could enjoy.

  1. Great experiment! I loved Laura Ingalls Wilder when I was growing up. By the way, I nominated your awesome blog for a Liebster award! http://learningthroughtheclutter.blogspot.com/2012/09/liebster-blog.html
