Tot School: Pumpkins

Tot School
(M is 38 months old)

This week in Tot School we focused on pumpkins. I have a pumpkin/halloween learning pack from Me and Marie and we did several activities from it this week including sizing pumpkins from smallest to biggest:

matching colored candy corns:

and matching halloween items to their shape shadows:

We also did quite a bit of pumpkin science. We cut a small pumpkin open and investigated the seeds inside. We planted some seeds in a ziploc bag to see them grow, and soaked some pumpkin seeds overnight and then cut them open to see the small plant inside. We counted the pumpkin seeds and M also worked on the pumpkin lifecycle using cards from Montessori for Everyone.

One of her favorite practical life activities this week was washing her pumpkin. She worked for over 40 minutes to make sure it was scrubbed clean.

We took a trip to a local pumpkin patch, but had to leave after just a few minutes due to a swarm of bees so we didn't get to do the hayride or activities this year. I have several more pumpkin activities planned for this coming week.
